This guitar is an interesting item. It’s a Taylor SB1-X, and is no longer manufactured. Beautiful Taylor built quality, light but resonant swamp ash body with a very thin finish – you can see the contours of the ash through the spray. The neck is lovely to play – as you would expect from a Taylor – and has a bone nut installed. The pickups are really loud but also crystaline and perfectly balanced – they are a neodymium magnet design, and with the five-way switch, provide five very usable tones. I played this on the song, ‘Wolves’ from the On Pain album. Taylor also developed a proprietory new bridge design for this series. Once you get used to it, it works very well and stays in tune. The tuners/machine heads are top quality. There are a couple of things to note about this instrument that will need addressing by whoever owns it next. 1. the switch design is a bit flawed and has a tendency to flake out on some of the 5 positions. This is a known issue. Replacements can be bought relatively cheaply from Stewmac – I can provide info on this to any buyer. It looks like a pain to solder (for me anyway – maybe not for everyone), but once replaced it’s solid going forward. 2. The neck probably needs a fret dress. There’s a dead spot on the D string at the 17th fret G note. It might be fixable with a simple file of the fret above but it may benefit from a light fret dress. That may sound like a couple of serious caveats but I don’t think they are for someone who wants to own a very well built, unique Taylor electric. These were just under $2,000 US new. I’m looking for significantly less than that. Also the neck detaches, making for a smaller package size, so shipping it internationally should be possible without breaking the bank. Finally…the original owner installed a Canadian dollar coin at the back of the head stock – likely to add a bit of weight, so you get that as a bonus, lol.
